Plasma skin tightening converts gas into plasma by irradiating it with radio frequency (RF) energy. The plasma emits heat and deprives your skin of oxygen by simply being in contact with it without causing ablation, or vaporization, of the skin's outer layer.
To help speed up the healing process, the process removes moisture from the treated area, leaving a dried, or desiccated layer of skin. In addition, it makes the skin more resistant to the heat of the resurfacing device, and it helps guide the plasma to places that are still untreated and keep the skin from being overcooked.
Your body's wound-healing response is triggered by the heat your skin generates. The heat breaks down collagen in the dermis, which is the layer beneath the epidermis, as well. As the fibroblast activity increases, the production of new collagen is boosted.
Efficacy
When exposed to heat, collagen fibers contract immediately to form a skin that is tightened. Skin laxity and wrinkles decrease and fine lines and crow's feet are diminished due to the improvements made visible.
Skin tightening from low-energy plasma procedures often needs multiple treatments to produce a noticeable change. High-energy procedures take less time, but side effects are much worse.
Biopsies reveal new collagen after 3 months in people who've had a procedure. After over a year of treatment, your skin becomes firm and plump.
